drive. temperatures off to a nice clear, cool start. 40s and 50s to get you out the door. temperatures will reach to the mid and upper 60s under an increasingly cloudy sky. it's home coming at howard taking on morgan state at a 1:00 kick off. 67 degrees with a nice northwesterly breeze and maryland taking on the wolfpack of nc state. a 3:30 kick off in college park. 68 degrees. perfect weather for the terps. back to you guys. more college football forecast coming up. >> thank you. new this morning an unsettling start to howard university's home coming weekend. police say someone stabbed a man at a home coming event. he was attacked near howard on georgia avenue. news 4's derrick ward is there live with more. >> good morning. this happened about 2:30 here in the 6,000 block of georgia avenue. now just a few hours from now this will be the scene of the

home coming parade but what we are told is that an adult male was stabbed in the stomach here somewhere in the 6,000 block of georgia avenue. he was taken to a local hospital conscious and breathing. not much more information on that. th last night there were several events. yesterday was the yard fest seen at a watershed event for a lot of up and coming performances. we don't know if this was after that because there was another location or what have you but nonetheless the howard university home coming parade will get under way. street closures will begin about 309 this morning from fairmont street on the north down to florida avenue on the south. if you head down this way or you're heading across town just expect delays and closures because of that. a parade gets under way due to be over about 1:00 p.m. and then you have the home coming game and later a post home coming game event as well.

so several other events that have been going on for the past couple days. of course this is the only one marred by violence. of course that has not stopped the actual home coming festivities here and hopefully the mood will be one that will be celebratory of what is going on here as opposed to any distractions. we are live in northwest. back to you. new information about a deadly crash in prince george's county involving a metro bus. police now say a street race caused a car to crash into the back of the bus in sea pleasant. around 9:30 last night police say two drivers each in a mercedes-benz were drag racing. one hit the back of a metro bus. that car burst into flames and the driver in that car, 22-year-old leon willis of bowie, was killed. police say speed and alcohol could be factors in the wreck. more than 40 people were on the bus. none of them were seriously hurt though. two people inside the other mercedes bens are also accused of drinking. one of two prince george's

county police officers charged with beating a university of maryland student is looking at several years in prison. jurors convicted corporal james harrison of assault but acquitted him of misconduct. they found corporal reginald baker not guilty on both charges. prosecutors say both men beat up john mckenna as students celebrated the basketball victory. defense attorneys say mckenna ignored police and they considered him a threat. >> definitely glad that some justice has been done today. it's been a long two years for me and my family. but there was a broader crime committed here and it's been way further than two cops charged in this trial. >> the citizens of prince george's county have spoken loudly and clearly that although we appreciate and we really honor the protection provided to us that must be reasonable and that protection must respect the dignity of every human being in this community. >> both officers will remain

suspended until the police department completes its own investigation. corporal harrison will be sentenced in december. he faces up to ten years in prison. a 61-year-old woman faces charges for allegedly causing a crash that killed an off duty prince george's county police officer. investigators say the accident that killed officer kevin bowden thursday was the result of the woman crossing several lanes of traffic along the road in clinton. the woman allegedly cut the officer off sending his cruiser right into a utility pole. that woman remains in the hospital. police say officer bowden was speeding and was not wearing a seat belt. funeral arrangements have not yet been announced. new this morning a deadly bus crash involving a bus full of tourists just outside of las vegas. the driver apparently had some kind of medical issue behind the wheel as he approached the nevada border in kingman, arizona causing the bus to go off the road. the driver later died and about 45 passengers were onboard, a

few of them seriously hurt. a tragic end in the search for a young oregon woman who vanished on her way to work. police found whitney's body in a wooded area near portland where she lived and arrested the 21-year-old's neighbor jonathan holt and charged him with her murder. she left her apartment early tuesday morning heading to starbucks where she worked. starbucks tweeted this morning we are deeply saddened to learn of whitney's death. whitney, your starbucks family will miss you greatly. today more than a thousand military members will gather at arlington national cemetery to pay tribute to women who died while serving. military women from world war ii all the way to the present are expected to attend. as part of the tribute those who attend will also hold a candlelight march to the cemetery crossing the memorial bridge from the lincoln memorial. it's the 15th year for the event. it could take you a little longer to get around town if you're using metro today. expect delays on the red, orange, and green lines all

right now thousands of people are on the national mall for the best buddies challenge. >> that's right. the bike race, foot race, and walk began at the washington monument this morning. joining us is olympic gold medalist carl lewis. and kevin bennett who is a best buddies ambassador. carl, i want to start with you. it is awesome to see you back. what brings you back to this every year? >> well, it's great. i've been involved with best buddies for many years but what i like is things like kevin. our friend and buddy because we're buddies and just bringing the families together and everyone to come out and raise money for people with intellectual disabilities is such a wonderful time that we can share with best buddies and everyone out here in the nation's camped. >> last year you and kevin won the tandem race. are you competing again together this year? >> yeah. we look forward to it. everyone has been talking about it. kevin already told them we won the race so we're working on a strategy right now. >> what is it like to have an olympian running along side you, kevin? >> i think it was very wonderful

to have an olympic champion to be my companion in a race. such a great honor. >> kevin, you've got a lot to live up to. you guys are back to defend your title. have you been training for this? >> yes. >> if so, how? >> oh, yes. i've been training a lot. back at my new school lifting weights at the fitness center and also taking a fitness class in swimming. >> he actually had to make me step my game up. i'm the one ho has to get ready. >> i was going to ask you about that. you worked with a lot of great athletes. how did these best buddy competitors measure up? >> well, the thing is they really want to win. i used to run against people who had like 50 races a year and they say if you lose one it's okay. kevin is like we have one race a year. you better not mess it up. >> the measure is on you now. >> yeah. exactly. the pressure is on me.

you're in for a treat if you are willing to stay up late tonight. the orionid meteor shower could put on quite a show. you'll be able to see about 20 meteors an hour during the peek of the storm. it begins at 11:00 tonight and ends around 3:00 tomorrow morning. they're little pieces of haley's comet. >> you got a glimpse. >> did i say it right? >> you got it. >> i was worried about that. >> you got a glimpse of orion's belt right? >> yeah. on my way in this morning. the skies were nice and clear and you could see the three stars in a nice line. the reason they are called the orionids is because they appear to be coming out of the constellation which is visible this time of the year. >> scott, one of our viewers said, i got up at 5:00 and caught a few meteors and satellites. is that the same thing? >> and a satellite? you can also see the space station revolving around. if you are a very good observer and away from city lights you can see all kinds of stuff flying in the sky.

a good night for going out and doing a little meteor watching tonight as well. skies will be clear once again. just about after the sun goes down this evening. so 11:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. for the peak. you'll find no problem finding orion in the sky. nary a cloud early this morning but it will be changing. not worried about rain today especially not in the washington area and up and down the i-95 corridor. but all of the sunshine out here we have a cooling north to northwesterly breeze and more importantly up aloft in the atmosphere some very chilly air coming down from the great lakes. you put a little sunshine into that and all of a sudden you cook up a little cumulus feel later on this afternoon. that's what we're looking for. 58 now at national airport with a north breeze at 6 miles per hour. we're out of the 40s in many spots now. already culpepper 52. fredericksburg 55. hagerstown, smithsburg 52. 53 martinsburg and inwood, west virginia. as you make your plans to get

outside today plenty of sunshine this morning but clouds will be building this afternoon. a touch breezy at times today. not ferociously windy but a little breezy here and there. temperatures today topping out about ten degrees cooler than yesterday. you'll notice the change and as you also can notice here nothing to worry about on the radar. those heavier showers late last night that slowed down the friday evening commute. those are now off of cape cod and moving away from us and these showers out here in ohio are headed mostly into western pennsylvania but if you travel out into the mountains of west virginia today out toward morgan town where i happen to know for a fact there is a big college football game. kansas state is in town. could have some cloudiness and maybe a few daytime sprinkles in the mountains of west virginia. for us partly cloudy to mostly cloudy afternoon on the cooler side compared to yesterday. but all the rain showers stay well north and west of us. clearing out overnight tonight. good weather for meteor viewing and then tomorrow high pressure starting to build in promises a warm and dry pattern for most of the rest of the week. if you're going out to do a little leaf looking today, peak

baseball. nlcs game five cardinals win, are one win away from meeting the tigers in the world series, but the giants weren't done yet. san francisco puts up a four run fourth inning including this two-run single by brandon crawford. and that was more than enough for starter barry zito. the wylie vet tosses 7 2/3 innings of shut out ball. giants win, 5-0 to force game six on sunday night. how about some college football? fresh off last saturday's win against uva. the 4-2 maryland terapins host nc state this afternoon. kick off at 3:30 p.m. and home coming affair in college park. with a win the terps would improve to 3-0 in the acc for the first time since 1985. elsewhere big road game for virginia tech as the hokies travel to clemson. virginia takes on wake forest in charlottesville. home coming at howard. bison face morgan state. navy hosts indiana and west virginia welcomes kansas state to morgan town.

that's your sports minute. i'm carol maloney. have a great saturday. >> thanks, carol. as carol did just mention, this is home coming weekend at howard and the football game is just part of the festivities. howard's show time marching band will be performing before the game in the school's annual home coming parade. about 30,000 people will pack the streets of northwest for what "the washington post" has called one of the must see events of the year. the home coming party continues tonight with a step show at darr constitution hall. not a good final weekend for the texas state fair as a popular fair icon goes up in flames. fair goers shot video of the giant statue called big tex. he was on fire yesterday morning. it's known for greeting people as they come into the fair. firefighters say an electrical issue started the fire and organizers promise however to rebuild it for next year. >> that was earlier in the day.

then last night two dozen people were stranded on one of the tallest rides at the texas state fair. the stratus sphere lost power leaving riders 150 feet in the air for more than two hours. workers eventually had to manually lower all the people to the ground. no one was hurt. the ride is going to remain closed. the singer sting has new fans. environmentalists. they're applauding the rock star for moving the location of his back to base tour concert in the philippines. the original venue's owner plans to uproot more than 100 trees for parking. the spotlight is shining on one tiny european country. lux 'emberg's prince and countess tied the knot yesterday but the celebration stretches into today with concerts and a gala dinner and even fireworks.

definitely have got romnesia. >> recent polls show the president and mitt romney tied in virginia. election day is still weeks away but congress is already looking ahead to inauguration day. it just launched a website with information about past inaugurations and the upcoming ceremony which will take place january 21st. the site includes audio, video, and more than 100 new pictures of past inaugurations. a congressional committee is also creating a facebook page with similar information. another major cocaine bust at dulles airport last night. the fifth time in as many weeks agents intercept drugs coming in from guatemala. this time customs and border protection agents seized more than three kilos of cocaine. a street value of up to a million dollars. they were found hidden inside things glued together. investigators say couriers often don't know what they are transporting. this one was returned to guatemala and barred from reentering the u.s. for five

years. one of our crews found itself in the middle of a police chase yesterday. police say it began when a maryland state trooper noticed a stolen car on the beltway. that chase wound through the streets of southeast d.c. it finally ended when the driver crashed on south capital street and mississippi avenue. officers arrested ronald blakeney from baltimore and charged him with assaulting a police officer and reckless driving. now to a news 4 exclusive. three teenage girls in prince william county are asking for your help this morning. they hope you can help find the man who robbed them at gun point and sexually assaulted one of them. this is the man that police are looking for. the girls were walking home late thursday night near the quantico marine base when the girls say he attacked them. they say he dragged the youngest girl who is just 14 into the woods and assaulted her. the other two got away and called for help. >> i just think it's ridiculous i have to walk outside at night

and be scared or be terrified to come out by myself. this area is getting more ridiculous by the day and people think it's cute to go ahead and start robbing people. it's not. >> police have gone door to door in neighborhoods near where the assault took place. they aren't saying whether that has turned up any leads. this morning police believe they've found the man who broke in and secretly videotaped two women in their own homes. michael mckenna of columbia, maryland is suspected of accidently videotaping himself setting up the camera inside his victims' ellicott city condo. according to police mckinney knew the women and said he took their key then made a copy of it. police say he went into their apartments back in june to set up t even went back several times to move it. at one point he accidently recorded himself. two more victims have been identified. police in bangladesh are looking into whether a bangladeshy man charged with trying to blow up the federal reserve building in new york had

ties to radical groups in their country. officers arrested him this week. the u.s. attorney's office calls him one of the most dangerous terrorists the u.s. has seen since 9/11. prosecutors say he has already reached out to others about building a terror cell and nothing is going to stop him they say. court documents show he is considered attacking a military base near baltimore but changed his mind because he wanted a target that would cause more devastation. o.j. simpson may soon be back in a courtroom. a nevada judge has agreed to reopen the armed robbery and kidnapping case against the former football star. she wants to see if simpson was so poorly represented by his lawyers in that trial that he should get a new one. jurors convicted simpson of those crimes in 2008. he is currently serving 9 to 33 years in prison. this morning attorneys for the man accused of killing trayvon martin can get a better look at the teen's life before he died. a florida judge says george

zimmerman's attorneys can review martin's school, phone, and social media records to learn if the teen has violent tendencies. martin's death sparked outrage earlier this year. zimmerman, who was serving as a neighborhood watch volunteer, shot and killed the unarmed teen. zimmerman maintains he shot him him in self-defense. this morning a recall on hoodies sold at target with high levels of lead. the consumer product safety commission is launching a voluntary recall of fleece hoodies and t-shirts made by the children's apparel network with disney characters snow white, mickey mouse, and cars. the zippers on the products contain high levels of lead. if you have one of these you're urged to keep them away from children. if you bought it at target you can return it for a full refund. well, it could take you a little longer than usual to get around town this morning. several streets are closed right now for the best buddies challenge. the bike ride, foot race, and walk raises money for best

understand the more we drive or the more tickets and accidents we have the more we'll pay for car insurance. but are insurance companies going too far considering other factors? >> like how much education you have, what kind of job you have, how much you make. >> reporter: bob hunter at the consumer federation of america thinks so. he and the federation set out to find out why so many drivers are uninsured. even though most states require it. they found this woman in miami who is single with a flawless driving record but only a high school diploma in a low paying job. >> they'll charge her for basic coverage required by the state $4,024 in miami. >> reporter: if she gets married, a college degree, and a higher paying job, the premium drops to about $600 a year. hunter, who used to be the insurance commissioner in texas, accuses some insurance companies of using income as a way to des krim nate against the poor.

survive but the stabbing happened as thousands of people come to howard for home coming weekend. one man is dead after a crash in prince george's county involving a metro bus. police say a street race caused a car to crash in the back of a bus in sea pleasant. at around 9:30 last night police say two drivers each in a mercedes-benz were drag racing. one hit the back of the metro bus. that car burst into flames and the driver in that vehicle, a 22-year-old, was killed. police say speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the wreck. more than 40 people were on the bus. none of them were seriously hurt. two people inside the other mercedes-benz are accused of being drunk. one of two prince george's county police officers charged with beating a university of maryland student up is looking at several years in prison. jurors convicted corporal james harrison of assault. they acquitted him of misconduct and found corporal reginald baker not guilty on both

charges. prosecutors say both men beat up john mckenna as students celebrated a basketball victory. defense attorneys say mckenna ignored police and they considered him a threat. >> definitely glad that some justice has been done today. it's been a long two years for me and my family but there's a broader crime committed here and it's been way further than two cops charged in this trial. citizens of prince george's county have spoken loudly and clearly that although we appreciate and we really honor the protection provided to us that protection must be reasonable and that protection must respect the dignity of every human being in this community. >> both officers will remain suspended until the police department completes its own investigation. corporal harrison will be sentenced in december. he faces up to ten years in prison. a 61-year-old woman faces charges for allegedly causing a crash that killed an off-duty prince george's county police

officer. investigators say the accident that killed officer kevin bowden thursday was the result of the woman crossing several lanes of traffic along the road in clinton. the woman allegedly cut the officer off sending his cruiser right into a utility pole. the woman remains in the hospital and police say officer bowden was speeding and was not wearing a seat belt. funeral arrangements have not yet been announced. new this morning a deadly bus crash involving a bus full of tourists just outside of las vegas. the driver apparently had some kind of medical issue behind the wheel as he approached the nevada border in kingman, arizona. this caused the bus to go off the road. the driver later died. about 45 passengers were onboard. a few of them were seriously hurt. a tragic end in the search for an oregon woman who vanished on her way to work. police found whitney hitel's body in a wooded area near where she lived and arrested her neighbor jonathan holt and charged him with her murder. she left her apartment early tuesday morning for starbucks
